The Chamber’s Junior Leadership program is designed for high school sophomores interested in sharpening their headship skills, learning more about their community, and getting involved in community service.
The program educates and motivates participants while honing their leadership skills. The program runs annually from late January through April.
Program Requirements
The program is restricted to 10th grade students only, in the Oxford-Lafayette County area. Acceptance is based on completion of the required forms and documents by the deadline of Tuesday January 16, 2024 and the payment of the $75 tuition fee. This fee covers the cost of food at each session, transportation, a program tshirt, and graduation expenses.
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to their potential for leadership, would contribute to the overall diversity and strength of the class and have time to commit to the program. Program participation is limited to 25.

History of the Junior Leadership Program
Aware that the early development of leadership skills is essential to improve the quality of life for all Oxford and Lafayette County residents, the Oxford Lafayette Chamber of Commerce began the Junior Leadership program in 1998.
This program offers 10th grade students an opportunity to grow and enhance skills that will be crucial as future leaders in this community. Through the Junior Leadership program, the Chamber seeks to identify young leaders in the Oxford and Lafayette County area, motivate them and assist them in sharpening their leadership skills, in the hopes that they will exert a strong positive influence on the future of Oxford and Lafayette County.
The participants will work together in a program that combines nine group sessions filled with exceptional speakers and topics, partnered with hands-on community projects that require them to use and develop their leadership skills through service to the community. Training sessions include topics like leadership, team building, medical community, education, legal fields, law enforcement, government, careers, and the arts, among other topics.
